Garry and
Anita met at LeTourneau University, where they were preparing for missionary service.
Garry, who grew up in southern Florida, dedicated his life to full-time mission
service while in high school. Anita was raised in Illinois and Ohio, where her father
pastored several churches. She accepted the Lord when she was seven-years-old and
later developed a desire to serve in foreign missions. From 1982 to 2001, Garry
and Anita served in a cooperative agreement with Lumiere Medical Ministries in Haiti
for 15 years, then in the LMM home office in North Carolina. In October 2001, Garry
and Anita accepted a new assignment with MTW to serve at the Presbyterian Clinic
in Patchakan, Belize. Garry will work as the clinic administrator and Anita, an
RN, will work in community health and health education in the Presbyterian schools.
They will also help improve the evangelism outreach of the medical ministry in concert
with local village churches. Other responsibilities include coordinating medical
visitors, hospitality for visitors, and building relationships in the Belizean medical
community. Their goals will include evangelism, church growth, and promoting better
health for the people of Belize.
Most recent update:
August 2006
Greetings from North Carolina! Anita and I arrived in Charlotte NC on August 8th
to begin our one year of Home Ministry Assignment (HMA). We have rented an apartment
and hope to be moved in by the end of next week. We are currently staying with our
daughter Caryann and her husband Tim. They have announced that they will give us
our first grandchild in February. Needless to say we are excited about the news
especially since we will be here for the big event. Rebecca will be with us until
January when she plans to attend Clemson University. She will take a full load of
classes at a local community college this fall. Amy and Chayo are getting settled
in Jackson Mississippi. They have an apartment, a car, and Chayo has received his
"green card" which is really a miracle. We were expecting it to take up to six months
but he received it in less than a month. Amy will start school August 21 and Chayo
continues with interviews for job opportunities.
Our HMA plans include continuing education for Anita and I. Anita will continue
her nursing degree and I am working toward a Masters in Intercultural Studies. More
importantly we hope to visit all our supporting churches and individual supporters.
We have been blessed with a great support team and we look forward to sharing with
you what God is doing in Belize. If there is a time you would like us to visit you
or if you know the dates of your missions conference please contact us. Our HMA
address will be: Garry and Anita Chambers, 112 Ballard Drive, Dallas NC 28034 Telephone
# (704)923-8037. Our e-mail address will remain the same: gchamfam@juno.com
We look forward to seeing you and once again want to thank you for your financial
and prayer support over the last four years of ministry in Belize!
In Christ,
Garry
