The Ministry of Harry and Julia Miller in Eastern Europe
The purpose of Harry and Julia’s ministry is to take the biblical teachings of the
Reformation into an area untouched by that movement in the sixteenth century. By
means of thirty-hour seminars, they teach pastors and other church leaders various
topics. This format is the equivalent of a three hour course in an American theolo-
gical seminary. Many of the pastors have had no formal biblical instruction.
In the recent past, seminar themes were: The Marks of the Biblical Church, The Gifts
and Works of the Holy Spirit, Personal and General Eschatology, and Biblical Worship.
The summer conference for pastors and their wives studied Justification by Faith
Alone in Christ Alone.
In addition to the seminars, the ministry includes teach- ing home Bible studies
and preaching in various churches. The Lord has honored these efforts to bring people
to conversion. Teachings from the seminars are put into immediate practice by many
of the congregations involved.
The greatest thing that can be done for God’s glory in the Balkans is to develop
pastors trained for a truly biblical ministry. To this end, a group of missionaries
is launching a theological seminary in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital. One congregation
provided funds for a young man to study at the Bible Institute in Sofia. God endowed
him with a brilliant mind, especially for the biblical languages. After he completes
his master’s degree, he will be a significant asset for the preparation of other
pastors. This may seem like a small step. However, the influence of this man’s ministry
will spread in ever-widening circles to God’s glory.
While Harry is in the states, he preaches in various churches, teaches a home Bible
study, speaks at mission conferences, and seizes any opportunity the Lord gives
to serve to His glory. He asks for prayer for wisdom, physical strength, and clarity
of mind as he and Julia pursue this work as long as the Lord enables them.
